Most people who join Wilderness Malaysia start as an assistant trainer and work up from there. However if you have other qualifications we will consider you for other positions in the company.

Expatriate Employment Opportunities

We offer you the ideal opportunity to combine working with adults and children of Malaysia doing fantastic outdoor activities such as trekking, kayaking and camping, with your appetite for adventure and a chance to get the inside perspective of another culture. You will be mixing and working with a broad range of ethnic backgrounds, with local staff coming from Sabah, Sarawak and mainland Malaysia. Not only do you have the chance to gain valuable cultural and outdoor experience, but you gain easy access for adventure travel destinations such as Thailand, Cambodia and Indonesia. Wilderness Malaysia offers short term (seasonal) trainer positions.

INTERNSHIP

We strongly encourage tertiary students studying outdoor recreation based courses to complete their practical placement at Wilderness Malaysia. Practical placements create an opportunity for potential future employment with our organization. They are also a great way for Wilderness Malaysia to give something back to the industry.

During your internship with us you will be given an opportunity to experience a variety of programs and client groups. You will be able to gain and enhance skills and knowledge in the areas of sea kayaking, ropes courses, jungle trekking and sailing while working along side experienced outdoor professionals. Throughout your time here you will have the opportunities to further develop your leadership and facilitation skills under the guidance of qualified instructors in real life settings. We will provide various training opportunities and ensure that your experience here covers all aspects of our programs. Our staff will always be available to mentor and support you throughout your practical training with us.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Current attendance in a tertiary course related to outdoor education, outdoor recreation or other relevant discipline.

The right attitude is very important. You will need to:

  • Be willing to learn and take initiative
  • Complete the tasks assigned by the workplace supervisor
  • Listen to instructions and ask questions
  • Be polite, courteous and well-mannered with all staff members
  • Be punctual and dress appropriately
  • Follow all workplace policies and procedures
